Nestled in northern Campania in Tasmania’s Coal River Valley, the SISU estate spans 95 hectares of gently undulating farmland. Since 2021, under the stewardship of owner and vigneron Jake Sheedy, parcels of the site have been masterfully reimagined into a mosaic 25-hectare vineyard. Guided by a simple philosophy—to grow exceptional fruit and tread softly in our craft—SISU is deeply committed to caring for the land and farming mindfully.Â
This is a site of true distinction—one that yields fruit of subtle precision and unmistakable clarity. The region’s cool-temperate climate, shaped by the maritime influence of the nearby Southern Ocean, moderates summer heat and brings fresh, dewy nights—ideal conditions for the slow, even ripening of our fruit.Â
The plots across our vineyard are distinguished by three soil structures: black dolerite, red vertosols, and a small section of well-draining sandy loam at the base of the hill. This rich mosaic of expressive soils shapes the character of each of the varietals grown here: Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Viognier, Gewürztraminer, Gamay, Syrah and Nebbiolo.Â
Applying the lightest of touches in our gravity-fed estate winery, we allow the wines to convey the rugged beauty of the Coal River Valley landscape. In partnership with Landcare Tasmania, we’ve already planted over 1,300 native trees and shrubs, making a great start toward rewilding 10% of the farm within the next five years. Our commitment to sustainability is further reflected in certifications from Sustainable Winegrowing Australia and VinØ—testaments to the care we take to nurture both the land and the fruit it bears.
